Christmas Cards

What is the purpose of the Christmas card? Is it to spread the joy of the season to those you care about? A friendly reminder that someone is still on your mind? Or, is it to blather on about all you did this year? To brag ad infinitum about your travels, accomplishments and personal insights? I have always been troubled by the "newsletter" approach to x-mas letters.
